Why go

Read this one as a record rather than a plan. Robbie Morrow opened Haylynn Canteen on 21 December 2020, in the unit The Cabin had held on Dumbarton Road for 125 years before it closed in 2015 (GlasgowWorld). He came to it with a real CV: six years at Number 16 on Byres Road, Catch 22 on Bath Street, two years in Melbourne, two in the Swiss Alps, then Tabac, Alchemilla and Eighty Eight, where he was head chef at the opening. His plan for the menu was "a very brunch focused menu which will follow the same idea as Eighty Eight as a very seasonal/ever changing menu" (Glasgow Live, December 2020). He also handed the outside wall to Colourways Glasgow as a legal canvas for street artists, repainted every two months.

Order this / avoid

• Order, when it was open: the caramelised banana and chocolate pancakes, or the duck egg and hash brown with Stornoway black pudding and sage. The BLAT bagel, the pastrami and kraut bagel, and the tonkatsu pork bun with loaded fries were the other regulars (The Scotsman).
• Avoid: traveling for it on the strength of an old recommendation. The closure was announced for 10 May 2025 and nothing published since confirms it trades again.

Good to know

• Status, and the reason it is not airtight: the owner announced a permanent closure effective 10 May 2025, reported independently by The Scotsman and GlasgowWorld, and no registry outlet has reported a reopening since. This row is marked closed. Against that, Glasgow City Council issued a new hygiene rating for "Haylynn Canteen" at this address on 18 June 2026, thirteen months later, under the same 2023 business registration, and no successor business has registered at the unit ref. Councils inspect premises that are operating, so something may well be trading there. The website is also still live, with an order function and a newsletter line about night-time pop-ups. Check before you go, and treat the closure as the working assumption.
• Hygiene, stated plainly: that 18 June 2026 inspection returned Improvement Required, the failing tier of the Scottish scheme, with no re-rating pending as of 30 July 2026 (FHRSID 1671062). It is six weeks old, the freshest such finding in the Glasgow set. If the place does serve you, that is current information about the kitchen.
• Where: 998 Dumbarton Road, Whiteinch, near the Clyde Tunnel. The master row said Partick and has been corrected.
• What to watch: Morrow is a working Glasgow chef with an Eighty Eight and Melbourne background. Wherever he cooks next is worth a row of its own.

listed — Robbie Morrow spent two years cooking in Melbourne and two in Switzerland, opened Eighty Eight as head chef, then took the unit the Cabin had held on Dumbarton Road for 125 years and turned it into the brunch room Whiteinch never had, mural wall and all, in the middle of the pandemic. Jeff's note on it reads "Don't miss it." Then Morrow announced a permanent closure on 10 May 2025 and the industry replied in public, El Perro Negro's owner writing that the climate is brutal. It sits at listed because the door is reported shut. Glasgow City Council rated the premises under this name again on 18 June 2026, so something may be operating there, and that same inspection returned Improvement Required.
