Jay's Grill Bar
The tables on Bath Street are built to run a hotpot broth and a barbecue plate at the same time, and the house brings you the raw material rather than a finished dish.
Why go
This is the cook-it-yourself format, done at buffet scale. DesignMyNight's Glasgow guide counts more than 100 different items in total
running from hotpot to sirloin steaks and seafood platters
, around a central self-service section, from GBP 28 a head for unlimited mains and desserts (DesignMyNight). That is the whole proposition, and it is a good one for six people who want a two-hour evening rather than a meal. What nobody has established is the part that decides whether it is any good: where the beef comes from, what goes into the broths, and how the sourcing compares with C'mon Inn a few streets north. No critic, chef or Glasgow food desk has written about this room under either of its names. One thing worth knowing before you look it up: the premises is registered with the council as Jay's BBQ Bar at 53 Bath Street, while Jeff's saved row, the Google pin and every listing still call it Jay's Grill Bar at 55 (FSA register).
Order this / avoid
- Order: sirloin over the grill plate and a seafood platter into the broth, which is where the hundred-item list actually concentrates. Run both cooking surfaces at once, because that is what the table is set up for.
- Avoid: treating it as a quick dinner. You are the cook, and the format takes an evening. Also avoid the dish lists that come up in search; they trace almost entirely to review aggregators.
What locals & experts say
- Nobody has written this kitchen up, and that is the finding. The Herald's Ron Mackenna has reviewed the comparable hotpot format at C'mon Inn, so the beat exists and this room has simply not been visited.
- DesignMyNight (Scarlett Welch, January 2025), a booking platform's city guide, on the format: the room serves
some of the best all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ in Glasgow, with dishes ranging from hotpot to sirloin steaks and seafood platters
, andPrices start from as little as GBP 28 per person.

, 53 Bath Street.1 - Local rec: Jeff's save. He left no note on it.
Good to know
- Where: 53 Bath Street, G2 2DH, on the register. Listings and the venue's socials say 55. Same block either way, a couple of minutes from Buchanan Street subway.
- The name: it trades as Jay's BBQ Bar now, with the Chinese name 苏格兰调情火锅烤肉自助 on its own channels. Searching the saved name is why coverage looks even thinner than it is.
- Booking: worth it for a group. The venue takes reservations through a resOS page rather than a site of its own, which is why no
websiteis recorded here. - Timing: listings put weekday service at teatime onward and weekends from midday, and no first-party channel could be read to confirm it. Check before travelling.
- Hygiene: the Food Hygiene Information Scheme records a Pass, rating date 15 December 2023 (FHRSID 1557972, Glasgow City Council). Pass is the clean result in the Scottish scheme, and that inspection is two and a half years old.1
Verdict
listed — A cook-it-yourself room on Bath Street where the tables carry both a hotpot broth and a barbecue plate, more than a hundred items come to you, and the run starts around GBP 28 a head. That format is genuinely fun and it is also the format that hides a kitchen, because the guest does the cooking and the house is judged on sourcing and setup rather than on a plate. Nobody credible has assessed either. There is no critic review, no chef naming it, no write-up from any Glasgow publication that reviews restaurants, and the venue's own channels sit on booking platforms that refuse to be read. What is on the record is a Food Hygiene Information Scheme Pass from December 2023 and a name change: Jeff saved it as Jay's Grill Bar and it now trades as Jay's BBQ Bar. It earns a pin and a group booking on the strength of the format. It does not yet earn a send.
