Nuku Nuku
Sushi and sashimi cut daily in a small casual room built for turnover, with ramen, katsu, teriyaki and donburi alongside, and the eel and the duck the two things past the rolls anyone has bothered to name. One site, at 189 Hope Street, two blocks from Glasgow Central, and no West End branch.
Why go
It is a small, casual Japanese room built around fast turnover: sushi and sashimi cut daily, maki rolls, plus ramen, katsu, teriyaki and donburi. The List bands it at £ and describes a cafe atmosphere with obvious pull for students and the lunch trade, which is the honest frame for what the kitchen is doing. The parts worth ordering are the ones a listings writer bothered to name, the eel and the duck. Nobody in approved Glasgow press has written about the chef, the opening year or the sourcing, and this entry does not invent any of them.
Order this / avoid
- Order: the eel or the duck. The List's line is that those
set this place apart, and chicken is crisp and more intensely flavoursome than elsewhere.
1 - Avoid: a late booking. The kitchen closes around 9pm, and Sunday service does not start until 4pm.
What locals & experts say

packed with deliciously fresh flavours
anddefinitely some of the best rolls we've had in a long time,
in a roommodern and has a warm feeling to it with some cute origami cranes hanging from the ceiling and fairy lights.

Good to know
- Timing: Monday to Saturday from noon to 9pm, Sunday 4pm to 9pm, per The List. Check the Maps pin before a late arrival.
- Booking: walk-in. The room is small enough that a group should go early.
- Location note: the restaurant is at 189 Hope Street in the city center, a few minutes from Central Station. Any listing that puts a Nuku Nuku in the West End is pointing at a different room.
- Cost: The List bands it £, and a 2019 dinner for two with rolls, mains and soft drinks came to £35.
Jeff's take (his words)
- Note: "Decent sushi, but not amazing"
Verdict
could-visit — If it is on your way, and on Hope Street it usually is. Nuku Nuku is a casual city-center Japanese room doing sushi, ramen, katsu and teriyaki at a price The List bands at £, with the eel and duck options the thing a listing writer bothered to single out. Nothing about it is scarce: no counter omakase, no named chef anywhere on the record, and Jeff calls it decent but not amazing. Eat there before a train, and do not cross town for it.
