Flour & Grape
The Infatuation's reviewer called the roasted pork shoulder tortelloni "completely unshareable. We mean, you could share them, obviously, but you're not going to want to."
Why go
It is a pasta-only kitchen on Bermondsey Street, and it does not take bookings, so the operation is built around a queue: you join it through an app and wait downstairs in Two One Four, the cellar gin bar, which stocks over a hundred bottles and runs flights. Harden's reporters describe a room "deservedly packed at all times" for "very moreish" plates in "generous servings", with "a great all-Italian wine list" behind them (Harden's). Eileen Twum's read for The Infatuation is the useful frame: this is where you go for "a classy (but cheap) date, catching up with mates, a cheap (but classy) birthday dinner."
Order this / avoid
- Order: the roasted pork shoulder tortelloni. Burrata to open. Ragu pappardelle or the tomato and fish linguine. Tiramisu gelato or the chocolate and hazelnut budino to finish.
- Avoid: the ricotta if the burrata is available, and going in blind on a Friday night. Also worth knowing before you choose between here and Padella: The Infatuation rates this cacio e pepe slightly below theirs.
What locals & experts say
- Eileen Twum, The Infatuation (13 January 2022), 7.5/10: "you can expect to have a plate or two of very good, fairly-priced pasta in front of you pretty quickly." ref
- Harden's diners' survey (2023): "This new-wave Italian in Bermondsey is deservedly packed at all times with fans of its very moreish pasta-only dishes in generous servings. Not being able to book is a bit of a gamble, but you can queue in the downstairs cocktail bar, Two One Four." ref
- Harden's, the following round: "The excellent pasta is well complemented by a great all-Italian wine list." Food rated Good, ambience Very Good. ref
Good to know
- Where: 214 Bermondsey Street SE1 3TQ.
- Booking: none taken. Join the virtual queue and wait in the gin cellar.
- Timing: dinner from 5.30pm every day, lunch Tuesday to Sunday. Those hours come from Harden's, because the venue's own site returns a shell with nothing on it.
- The cellar: Two One Four holds over a hundred gins and pours flights, which makes the wait a decision rather than a penalty.
- Opening date: not established. No source reached gives one, so it is left blank rather than guessed, since the ranking model decays newness on that date.
- Operator: the food-hygiene register lists the business as Antico Ltd trading as Flour & Grape, the same Bermondsey Street Italian operator behind Antico. A local operator with a second room rather than a group format.
- Hygiene: FSA rating 5, inspected 21 August 2025, clean fives across all three components. ref
Jeff's take (his words)
Nothing. His saved-places export carries an empty Note for this row, checked against london/data/_src-part3.csv. The master CSV's "Fresh pasta and wine on Bermondsey Street" line came from an enrichment pass. It is accurate as far as it goes and it misses the part that decides the evening, which is that you cannot book and the queue happens in a gin cellar.
Verdict (Chef Jeff ladder)
could-visit — Go when you are on Bermondsey Street and prepared to wait, which is the deal here. It is a pasta-only kitchen, and The Infatuation's Eileen Twum makes the practical case better than a menu could: you will have a plate or two of very good, fairly-priced pasta in front of you quickly, and the roasted pork shoulder tortelloni are 'completely unshareable'. Harden's reporters back it, calling the room deservedly packed and the pasta very moreish in generous servings, with an all-Italian wine list behind it. The counterweight is that the same reviewer puts the cacio e pepe slightly below Padella's, and Padella is a bus ride away, which is the comparison anyone choosing between them will make. There are no bookings, so you queue through an app and wait in Two One Four, the gin cellar downstairs with over a hundred bottles, which turns the wait into the better half of the evening.
