The owner states the house rules himself:
I've only got a couple of rules, don't be a dick, and you can only hit on someone once(DesignMyNight).
Why go
Oskar Klimaszewski kept bar at Casita on this street for the best part of a decade before taking the cellar underneath it in 2015 (The Nudge). He runs a list of twelve drinks and has barely touched it since. Klimaszewski was pouring the Frothy Lady and the Curious George when DesignMyNight came in November 2017, and both are on the December 2025 menu, up from GBP 9 to GBP 12.50. The espresso martini is built on sotol, the Chihuahuan agave spirit distilled from the desert spoon plant, in place of vodka. Two drinks come as full non-alcoholic serves at GBP 9 rather than as an afterthought. In 2016 Klimaszewski took the old Casita space upstairs at 5a and opened Home, so both bars on this stretch of Ravey Street are his (DesignMyNight).
Order this / avoid
- Order: The Old Nichol, gin with Antica, maraschino, orange bitters and fernet, named for a friend of the bar who lived on Old Nichol Street (The Nudge). Then the Desert Negroni, which swaps gin for mezcal and runs both vermouths. The Found espresso martini if you want to taste what sotol does to it. Food is a bowl of olives, so order a pizza in.
- Avoid: Sunday and Monday, when the door stays shut, and any arrival after 00.30 on a Friday or Saturday, which the licence blocks. Bring a card, because cash is not taken.
What locals & experts say
- DesignMyNight (16 November 2017), Olivia Cheves:
Found doesn't go in for frills, in fairness, they don't really have the space to. After descending the steep staircase to this matchbox bar, you'll spend five minutes remarking on how surprisingly busy it is, even for a Thursday, before realising there's only eight other people in the room.
On her drink: the Curious George wassweet and acidic, balanced out by an earthy after-taste.
2 - Square Mile (16 June 2022), Max Williams:
the booze range is sizeable and the menu from mixologist Oskar Klimaszewski offers some cracking cocktails. Worth seeking out.
His capacity figure of sixty seats is the outlier in every account of this room.5 - The Nudge (6 March 2022), Immy Smith, on the door:
hidden behind a black door. The only thing giving it away is a Victorian lamp-post marked with the letter F.
4 - No industry pick. All 621 rows of London's chef-vote file were checked on 30 July 2026 and no chef or bartender names this bar. No registry critic has reviewed it either, which is why the ruling stays modest.
Good to know
- Where: downstairs at 5 Ravey Street EC2A 4QW, off Great Eastern Street. Black door, lamp-post marked F, then a steep staircase and a velvet curtain.
- Timing: closed Sunday and Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday 5pm to 11pm, Thursday to midnight, Friday 5pm to 1am, Saturday 6pm to 1am. The licence stops entry and re-entry at 00.30 (venue).
- Booking: bookings and private hire go through the venue site, and four small rooms means a walk-in on a Friday is a gamble.
- Price: cocktails GBP 12.50 to 14, non-alcoholic serves GBP 9, wine from GBP 7 a glass, beer GBP 5.50. Card only, and a 12.5 percent service charge applies to groups of six or more.
- Food: green olives at GBP 3.50, and that is the extent of it. Pizza can be ordered in to the bar.
- Hygiene: no FSA record exists for this bar. The only registrations at EC2A 4QW are Home Bar at 5a and a cafe at number 6, which fits a bar serving bought-in snacks.
- Sites: two rooms, same owner, same street. Found is the basement at 5 Ravey Street; Home Bar at 5a is the agave bar in the old Casita ground floor, curated separately here. Casita itself closed in 2016, so any source describing Found as sitting "beneath Casita" is describing the building as it was ten years ago.
Jeff's take (his words)
- Note: Saved with no note; the note on my list belongs to Home Bar upstairs.
Verdict
could-visit — A twelve-drink basement run by the man who built the list. Oskar Klimaszewski kept bar at Casita on this street for about a decade, took the cellar in 2015 and has held the same house drinks ever since: the Frothy Lady and the Curious George were on the menu when DesignMyNight reviewed it in November 2017 and are still there on the December 2025 list, at GBP 12.50 rather than GBP 9. That is stability as a position, and the room is run the same way, with the owner on the door and a house rule he states himself. Four small rooms behind a black door under a lamp-post marked F. It stays at could-visit because the case rests on consistency and price rather than on anything you cannot drink elsewhere, and because no bartender or chef we can reach names it.
