Home Bar
A garage-sized agave bar at 5a Ravey Street with no published drinks list, no booking system beyond an Instagram DM, and a bar team good enough that Jeff took their recommendation and went to Callooh Callay on it (Jeff, first-hand; venue site).
Why go
Be clear about the evidence here: London has few bars built around tequila and mezcal, this is one of them, and the person vouching for it is the traveler whose list this is rather than any critic. Jeff has been, calls it a tequila and mezcal bar, calls it good fun, and names a bartender to ask for. That is first-hand evidence and it is treated as primary. What can be confirmed independently is the shape of the place: 5a Ravey Street, off the Great Eastern Street end of Shoreditch, evenings only with 3pm starts on Thursday and Friday, contact and bookings through Instagram at @home_on_ravey, and a site that publishes a greeting and its hours and nothing else (venue site). The FSA rates it 5 with a clean sheet on all three components, though the inspection was February 2023 (FSA).
Order this / avoid
- Order: agave, and take the bartender's steer, which is what Jeff did. No drinks list is published by the venue, so this entry will not invent a signature serve.
- Avoid: turning up before 5pm Monday to Wednesday, when the door is shut, and bringing a group. The room is garage-sized and there is no reservation system beyond a direct message.
What locals & experts say
- Jeff (first-hand): "Tequila mezcal bar. Good fun. Ask for Iggy." REAL, and top-tier evidence for what the bar actually serves.
- Jeff (first-hand), on the bar team: his note for Callooh Callay reads "Home bartender rec," which means the staff here are a recommendation source he has used. That is the most useful thing anyone has said about this bar on the record. REAL.
- Time Out London (checked, absent): the 12 Best Bars in Shoreditch, dated 1 July 2026, runs from Waltz and Tayer + Elementary to Nightjar and Callooh Callay, and does not name Home Bar. The tequila-bars list does not either. Recorded so nobody mistakes a gap in coverage for a verdict.3
Good to know
- Timing: Monday to Wednesday 5pm to 11pm, Thursday 3pm to 11pm, Friday 3pm to midnight, Saturday 5pm to midnight, Sunday 5pm to 10.30pm (venue site).
- Booking: none. Walk in, or message @home_on_ravey. Small room, so early or late is easier.
- Dietary: nothing published, and no food offer is advertised.
- Hygiene: FSA rating 5, all three components clean, inspected 2 February 2023 (FSA).
- Not to be confused with: the club Time Out lists at 5 Ravey Street. This is 5a, and it is a bar.
Jeff's take (his words)
- Note: "Tequila mezcal bar. Good fun." REAL.
- Rec via: "Ask for Iggy." REAL.
Verdict
could-visit — A garage-sized agave bar off Great Eastern Street that the traveler has been to, rates as fun, and trusts enough to take recommendations from the staff, which is how he ended up at Callooh Callay. That is a real endorsement from the only person whose visit is documented. It cannot climb higher on this evidence: no drinks list is published, no critic or chef has written about it, and there is no signature serve to point at.
