Scarr's Pizza
Scarr Pimentel has sold slices on the Chinatown line since 2016, and the Orchard Street move finally gave the room a back you can sit in with a whole pie.
Why go
The shop is Pimentel's, opened in 2016, and its own account of itself is short: Scarr's says he grew up surrounded by family and friends in the food industry
and built the place with a focus on all-natural and organic ingredients.
What changed at 35 Orchard Street was the room. The Infatuation is direct about it: They still do the same slices made from ultra flavorful dough and you'll definitely have to wait in line. But now there's more space in the back where you can sit down, order a full pie, and maybe even play a Mike's Hot Honey arcade game.
Order this / avoid
- Order: a pepperoni and jalapeno slice if you are passing, and a whole pie if you have an hour. The desk's own advice is to "come here with one or two friends, ask for a seat in the back, and settle in for a full pizza." The vegan pie is carried in its best-vegan-pizza guide.
- Avoid: turning up expecting no queue. The line is a fixture, and the back room is what you are queuing for.
What locals & experts say
- The Infatuation (12 April 2024, 8.1): an 8 on their scale is defined on the page as a spot
worth making an effort or crossing town for,
and it carries the shop in The 25 Best Pizza Places In NYC.1 - On Jeff's own note: he logged it as rated the best pizza in New York on a recent list. No list with a named edition has been read at its publisher, so the placing stands unpinned.
Good to know
- Timing: slices through the day and late. The queue is the constraint.
- Booking: the back room takes reservations, which is the difference between a slice and a sit-down.
Jeff's take (his words)

Verdict
should-visit — Scarr Pimentel opened this in 2016 on the Chinatown and Lower East Side line, and the shop's own line is that it runs on all-natural and organic ingredients, which for a four-dollar slice window is an unusual place to spend money. The Orchard Street move is what makes it worth planning around: the slices did not change and the back room did, so you can sit with a whole pie instead of eating standing up. The Infatuation has it at 8.1, a band it defines as worth crossing town for, and carries it in its best-pizza, best-Lower-East-Side and best-vegan-pizza guides. Held off the top rung because the dough claim everyone repeats about this place, that the flour is milled in house, could not be confirmed in any publication this site cites, and because Jeff's own best-in-New-York note is unpinned to any list.
