Antico Forno Roscioli
Take the pizza bianca off Pierluigi Roscioli's counter on via dei Chiavari.
Why go
The Infatuation settles which Roscioli door to walk into: The Roscioli name is legendary in Rome, and out of all their spots, Antico Forno Roscioli is the standout
(The Infatuation). It names the pizza con patate, taken further with porchetta sliced onto it.
Katie Parla narrows it and disagrees about the rest. She rates the pizza bianca here and says the bakery's other pizzas are too heavy, IMO
(Katie Parla). Dissapore names the family: Pierluigi runs this bakery and his brother Alessandro the salumeria on via dei Giubbonari.
Order this / avoid
- Order: the pizza bianca, then the pizza con patate if there is porchetta.1
- Avoid: the wider pizza range if you want it light.
What locals & experts say
- The Infatuation (Annie Replogle):
This must-visit bakery turns out fresh-from-the-oven pizza, crispy supplì, and an irresistible selection of baked goods, from crusty loaves to rustic pastries.
1 - Dissapore (2015): the forno is
probably the one Romans in the centre love most
.3 - Daria Reina, co-founder of the Chez Dede boutique (The Relisher, October 2024): this counter and Forno Campo de' Fiori are her two classics,
well-established, always busy, and worth the line
, and what she queues for is a supplì or a slice of pizza.5
Good to know
- Where: Via dei Chiavari 34, a few minutes from Campo de' Fiori.
- Booking: none. It is a bakery counter.
- The other doors: Roscioli Salumeria con Cucina on via dei Giubbonari is the dining room, and Roscioli Caffè is a third. Different rooms, different queues.
Verdict
should-visit — Pierluigi Roscioli bakes here and his brother Alessandro runs the salumeria two streets over, which makes this the cheapest way into the family. The Infatuation says it is the standout of all their rooms. Katie Parla narrows it further and says the pizza bianca is the thing and the rest of the range is too heavy, which is a useful disagreement to walk in with. I have not found a scored review of it, and it is a bakery counter.
