Schlafly Bottleworks
The sticky toffee pudding comes out warm under a brown-sugar sauce, and Ann Lemons Pollack calls it one of the great dishes of our town.1
Why go
Bottleworks is Schlafly's Maplewood brewpub, one of four the company runs.2 It serves brunch on Saturday and on Sunday alongside the usual lunch menu, and Pollack advises booking despite the size of the room.1 The kitchen puts its own beer to work at the table. The hefemosa mixes the house hefeweizen with orange juice and a touch of pineapple, which takes the edge off the wheat beer's bitterness.1 Everything named below is Pollack's plate in October 2016, so treat the menu as a starting point.
Order this / avoid
- Order: the sticky toffee pudding. It is a spice cake with brown-sugar sauce, served warm under softly whipped cream.1
- Order: the Oscar Benedict for the asparagus. Pollack got five thick stalks, grilled to keep a little crunch, with butter and coarse salt.1
- Order: a hefemosa with it if you want the beer in the brunch.1
- Avoid: the new potatoes. Pollack found them decent and no more.1
What locals & experts say
- Ann Lemons Pollack, St. Louis Magazine (6 October 2016), on the dessert:
It's one of the great dishes of our town, and worthy of a visit just to try it, no matter the occasion.
1 - Pollack on the huevos rancheros, same review:
The heat was nowhere near purgatorial, and in fact, there was at times a little sweetness in there, perhaps from the salsa. For huevos rancheros, it was surprisingly light.

Good to know
- Timing: brunch runs Saturday and Sunday and the lunch menu runs beside it.1
- Where to sit: outside, if the weather allows. Pollack says it is quieter unless there is live music.1
Verdict
could-visit — One dish carries this rung and it is a dessert: Ann Lemons Pollack called the sticky toffee pudding one of the great dishes of our town and said it was worth the trip on its own. Everything else she describes is a competent brewpub brunch, and she is unimpressed by the potatoes. The evidence is also nine years old, which is why it sits here and not higher.
