Enchiladas Y Mas

Five enchilada fillings run against four sauces, which is the entire ordering problem and most of the menu.1

Why go

It is a lone building on West Anderson Lane with almost no signage. The line outside is the only thing that tells you it is a restaurant.1 Nicolai McCrary rates it 8.1 for The Infatuation. He puts the crowd down to the cooking. The place has held that crowd a long time. It moved here from a kelly green building on I-35 before 1999. Barbara Chisholm wrote for the Austin Chronicle at the time that the fans would find it wherever it went.2

Order this / avoid

  • Order cheese enchiladas topped with more cheese and a side of beef fajita meat piled over them. That is the house move, and it is rich enough to be lunch and dinner.1
  • The old standout: the chorizo migas, eggs scrambled with sliced serranos, tortilla strips and crumbled chorizo with cheese. Chisholm called them the thing that sets the kitchen apart, in 1999, and I haven't found a newer review that mentions them.2
  • Avoid: planning the meal around margaritas. The house caps them at three with food and two without, and McCrary says the quality is about what that implies.1

What locals & experts say

  • Nicolai McCrary rated it 8.1 for The Infatuation on 4 September 2024. The room is as bare as the exterior, and it's the food that has given this place a cult-like following among locals.1
  • Barbara Chisholm, The Austin Chronicle, September 1999: the chorizo migas are what set it apart from other respectable Tex-Mex kitchens, with the serranos giving enough fire to recharge you and the chorizo giving the plate body. Her other note that still matters is that the refried beans keep their texture.2

Good to know

  • Walk in, and expect the line. It runs from breakfast onward and is thickest at weekend lunch.1
  • Hygiene: Austin Public Health scores the kitchen 88, inspected 4 March 2026. The six-inspection run since July 2023 reads 97, 92, 89, 87, 95 and 88. Austin scores on a 100-point scale where higher is better and 70 is the failing line, so none of this is a finding.3

Verdict

should-visit — Come away from weekend lunch, when the line is thinnest. Order the migas whatever time of day it is, and the cheese enchiladas after them.
