Lazarus Brewing Co. Airport Blvd.
The Infatuation's order at this address is carnitas tacos with a classic German pilsner. The pilsner program behind it took two Great American Beer Festival golds in September 2023.12
Why go
Two businesses share this building and they feed each other. Lazarus roasts single-origin coffee on site, from small farms in Africa and Central and South America, and says it spent twenty years working on the profile.4 It also brews. The Jolted Phoenix golden coffee ale is where the two programs meet, next to cold brew on nitro. The beer carries the medals. Three Texas Craft Brewers Cup medals came in February 2023, gold among them for Free Will American pale ale. Great American Beer Festival gold followed that September for Prodigal Pils in the German-Style Pilsner category, with a second gold for the brewery's Bohemian-style pilsner.2 Eric Puga ranked Lazarus tenth among Austin breweries in the Austin Chronicle's 2023 power rankings and thirteenth in 2024, counting both taprooms as one brewery.3
Order this / avoid
- Carnitas tacos with a classic German pilsner. That is The Infatuation's own pairing, chosen at this address:
just grab a classic German pilsner that we've found goes especially well with an order of carnitas tacos.
1 - Enchiladas and the sizzling carne asada, which are the two dishes both papers pull out of the bigger Airport Boulevard menu.1
- Queso fundido con chorizo and corn ribs, the starters the Chronicle names on this room's card.2
- Prodigal Pils if you want the medalist, or a flight if you want the range. Puga counted more than seventy unique beers across the two rooms in 2024.3
- Avoid: walking into the East Sixth taproom expecting this one. They run separate menus, and the kitchen is bigger here.1
What locals & experts say
- Nicolai McCrary reviewed this address for The Infatuation in June 2023:
And the newer space on Airport Boulevard takes things to another level. Much like the original location, there's a large list of beers brewed in-house, plus espresso-based drinks, tacos, and tortas. Here, though, you'll have access to a larger, expanded menu with dishes like sizzling carne asada and enchiladas.
The outlet prints no score, because it only rates places where you can eat a full meal. It lists the room in The Best Patios & Backyards In Austin, The Spots Of The Winter Austin Edition and The Best Breweries In Austin.1 - Eric Puga, in the Austin Chronicle's 2023 brewery rankings, gave this room its own sentence:
Laz 2 impresses with a significantly expanded food menu of enchiladas and carne asada, along with some fantastic appetizers like queso fundido con chorizo and corn ribs. Food for people who can use a fork.
2 - Puga again in 2024, on the wall rather than the kitchen:
the entire beer menu at both Laz 1 and Laz 2 dazzles with quality bangers up and down the beer list: Thunderpup Session IPA, Amandus Belgian Strong Golden Ale, and their rye IPA collab with local whiskey firebrand Fierce Whiskers.
The same piece reports Austin Monthly's readers voting Lazarus best brewery for 2024, which is a public vote reported secondhand and is worth that much.3 - The brewery's own line for the coffee is that it spent
twenty years honing our profile,
aiming forsmooth, rich, and balanced, with notes of berry, chocolate, and nuts.
That is the operator talking about the operator.4
Good to know
- The house medal claim. What has a body behind it. The brewery advertises
2 Taprooms, 5 Gold Medals, 70+ Beers
with no competition and no year attached.4 Three golds have a body and a date: Texas Craft Brewers Cup, February 2023, for Free Will American pale ale, and two Great American Beer Festival golds that September. The Chronicle's two editions disagree about the name of the Bohemian-style pilsner that took the second one, calling it Crazy Horse in 2023 and Dark Horse in 2024. I have not read the festival's own results.2 - Hygiene: Austin Public Health scores this kitchen 82, inspected 19 March 2026, listed as Lazarus Brewing Company at 4803 Airport Boulevard. The six readings before it run 95, 92, 88, 94, 74 and 83 back to August 2023. So the record is bumpy rather than flat, and nothing in it falls below Austin's failing line of 70. Two other Lazarus premises are registered separately and their scores are not counted here: East Sixth read 73 in May 2026 and 72 in September 2025. A third registration on Gene Johnson Street read 100.5
- Nobody publishes prices. The brewery posts a separate full menu for each taproom as a PDF.
Verdict
should-visit — Nothing here is bookable and nobody publishes hours, so treat it as a walk-in that starts at breakfast. Order the food at this door and the beer at either one. If gluten is your problem, every beer in the building is enzyme-treated to under twenty parts per million.
