Veracruz All Natural
The migas taco is built on tortilla chips the kitchen fries itself, which is why they stay crunchy under the egg and pico.1
Why go
This is the taco the rest of the city has to measure up to. Nicolai McCrary rated it 8.0 for The Infatuation in April 2022. He put the reason on the plate rather than on the brand: house-made chips, unhurried cooking, and a texture that survives contact with the egg.1 The agua frescas are made in house too.1
Order this / avoid
- Migas originales, and add the molcajete salsa.2
- Or migas poblanas, the version with black beans and poblano.2
- The fish taco, which McCrary calls one of the few decent ones in town, and any of the agua frescas.1
- Avoid: the al pastor. It is well seasoned and tender, it never sees a trompo, and McCrary wanted it crisper.1
What locals & experts say
- Nicolai McCrary, The Infatuation, 8.0, April 2022:
The migas taco here set the bar for all other migas tacos.
He creditsthe ingredients (they make their own tortilla chips), the execution, and the attention to detail
.1 - The same outlet's breakfast taco guide calls them best in class, with the caveat that a wait comes with every location.2
Good to know
- Which door: this page is about the taqueria business rather than one address. It runs half a dozen locations. The address the review carries, 2505 Webberville Rd, is a different premises from the downtown, Guadalupe Street or Mueller ones.
- Hygiene: no score belongs on this page, because no single branch is established here. The reviewed Webberville Road address has no inspection record at all, which is how the city treats trailers and says nothing about the cooking.3
- Not the same business: Veracruz Fonda & Bar in Mueller is the family's fixed restaurant and holds a Bib Gourmand. Sabor Veracruz on Tech Ridge is unrelated.
Verdict
should-visit — Walk up at whichever door is nearest. Order migas first, and let everything else wait for a second visit.
