Charmgang
Three chefs who cooked at Nahm under David Thompson, Geravich "Mew" Mesaengnilverakul, Aruss "Jai" Lerlerstkull and Atcharaporn "Aew" Kiatthanawat, opened this neon-lit Talat Noi curry shop in 2019 and turned the raan khao gaeng format into a Bib Gourmand room.
Why go
The menu rebuilds curry-and-rice-shop dishes with fine-dining sourcing and technique: Michelin's inspectors say "the smart menu uses local ingredients to create interesting new textures while preserving Thai authenticity." The Bib Gourmand arrived with the Thailand 2024 selection, and in March 2025 Time Out Bangkok gave it 5 of 5 stars. The room matters too, red reed mats and contemporary art in a shophouse behind an unassuming front, designed by Saran Yen Panya, with what 50 Best calls "the kind of buzz about it that's impossible to manufacture." The same team runs Charmkrung, a sixth-floor wine bar up Charoen Krung Road with a list built for natural pours.
Order this / avoid
- Order: the panang curry with braised beef cheek and the grilled beef skewers with jaew pla ra, the two dishes Time Out names as standouts while arguing
it's the overall balance of flavours and textures that makes Charmgang feel special.
Add the kaffir lime relish set, and drink wine: BK Magazine's advice isskip the signature cocktails and go straight for the gin and tonic or their wine list.
- Avoid: planning it as a cheap curry stop. BK's 2019 review found the panang "way too sweet," called the B540 skewer pricing "wholly unjustified," and left a bill over B4,000 for two. Time Out's 2025 rave and the Bib say the kitchen won the argument, but the price band held.
What locals & experts say
- Michelin Guide (Bib Gourmand, first awarded Thailand 2024):
The smart menu uses local ingredients to create interesting new textures while preserving Thai authenticity.
2 - Time Out Bangkok (March 2025, Napatsorn Ngaosawangjit, 5/5):
While offerings such as panang curry with braised beef cheek, and grilled beef skewers with jaew pla ra are standouts, it's the overall balance of flavours and textures that makes Charmgang feel special.
1 - BK Magazine (2019, the dissent):
We wanted to like it more,
with the panangway too sweet
and a warning on the bill.4 - 50 Best Discovery: curries
bursting with nuanced flavour.

Good to know
- Timing: dinner; Time Out (March 2025) lists Wednesday to Sunday, 6pm to 9pm, while 50 Best shows nightly dinner plus weekend lunch. Confirm on Instagram before you build a night around it.
- Booking: reserve ahead; the room is small and the buzz is real. Phone 098-882-3251 per BK.
- Getting there: Talat Noi, a short ride from Hua Lamphong MRT; pairs naturally with a Charmkrung nightcap up the road.

Verdict
should-visit — Three Nahm-trained chefs applying fine-dining discipline to the curry-shop format, with a Bib Gourmand since the 2024 selection and a 5/5 Time Out review in 2025. The craft claim is real and the room has pull, but the record carries a documented dissent on value and sweetness from BK's early visit, and no current critical consensus puts a single dish at career level. Worth the detour into Talat Noi; not yet a plan-the-trip room.
