Drygate Brewing Co.
Built into a 1930s box factory sharing a wall with Wellpark, where Tennent's has brewed since 1556, and one of the very few bars anywhere pouring Tennent's unfiltered on draft.
Why go
It started in 2014 as a joint venture between Williams Brothers and Tennent's Caledonian, run operationally independent of both, and Time Out gave it five stars and called the beers among the very best made in Scotland
(Time Out Glasgow). CAMRA's April 2025 survey records two bars over the ground and first floors, an outside terrace and a panoramic view of the brewery,
with 24 to 26 taps depending on which listing you read and a bottle shop attached. In March 2026 C&C Group, which owns Tennent's, bought out the Williams Brothers side and took the whole thing, with the accounts putting the total at EUR 0.9m. Jeff describes the room as a large modern American style brewpub, which is exactly what the scale and the patio deliver.
Order this / avoid
- Order: the unfiltered Tennent's, since Jeff notes this is one of the few bars serving it that way, then work the rotating taps. On the food, Time Out singled out
The Drygate beef burger with blue cheese and stout crust, truffle mayo and hand-cut chips.
3 - Avoid: treating it as a full dinner. Jeff's verdict is tasty food in small portions at a price. Cask drinkers should also look elsewhere, since CAMRA records none on the bar.
What locals & experts say
- Time Out Glasgow (Keith Davidson), 5/5:
a hugely welcome addition to the Glasgow scene,
with beersamong the very best made in Scotland
and foodevery bit as good as the beer.
3 - CAMRA (surveyed April 2025):
This brewpub occupies the historic Wellpark brewery site,
with two bars, a terrace and a view over the brewing floor, and no cask on the bar.2 - Ownership, pinned: Companies House lists Drygate Brewing Company Ltd, incorporated 22 January 2014 at 85 Drygate, now in liquidation as the joint-venture entity winds up after C&C took full control. The brewery and venue continue to trade.4
- Local rec: Jeff's save, and his first-hand notes on the unfiltered tap and the portions.
Good to know
- Timing: open through the day into the late evening, food served across the same hours. Check the Maps pin for exact times, since the venue's own site would not serve this pass.
- Booking: worth booking the restaurant side at weekends. The bar and terrace are walk-in.
- Pair it: the Tennent's tour next door at Wellpark, which is Jeff's tip. Drygate runs its own 45-minute tour on Sundays at GBP 10, and the ticket takes 10% off the bottle shop.
Craft signals (beer: a release programme)
Rotation here is deliberate rather than incidental. The brewery runs a standing small-batch line on a 2.5HL Studio kit, one-off beers brewed by hand and gone when they are gone, with a back catalogue it says is too large to publish6. The List records the taproom as the one place to drink all of that small-batch output, alongside a calendar of gig nights and events7. Those two put it at programme rather than plain rotation: the taps move because the brewery keeps making new beer to move them.
Jeff's take (his words)
- His review (Jeff, first-hand, 4 stars, 16 May 2021): "Came by for a pub lunch and drinks. The beer they had was tasty, although the selection was smaller than usual. They were also out of unpasteurised Tenant's (odd sitting next to the factory). We had starters and they were very tasty. The poutine was flavorful, crispy onion rings, and wings well seasoned. However we didn't stay for mains; the menu seemed more limited than normal and nothing jumped out for lunch. I look forward to coming back, but not quite 'normal', hopefully just minor reopening hiccups. Hopefully back to five stars as the menu and drinks get back to full swing."
- Note: "Good beer, decent food. Overpriced."
- More: "A large Glasgow craft brewer. The taproom has a large selection of their beers as well as guests and a bottle shop. It's located on the site of Tenants lager and is one of the few bars to offer it unfiltered on draft. It feels like a large modern American style brewpub with an extensive food selection and outdoor patio. Do the tour of tennents next door. Food is tasty, but small portions and a bit overpriced."
- Google review, May 2021 (four stars): a reopening visit, and he graded it as one: "The poutine was flavorful, crispy onion rings, and wings well seasoned. However we didn't stay for mains; the menu seemed more limited than normal and nothing jumped out for lunch." He also found them out of unfiltered Tennent's, "odd sitting next to the factory." His close: "Hopefully back to five stars as the menu and drinks get back to full swing."
Verdict
could-visit — If it is on your way, and next to Wellpark on a brewery day it is. The pull is one tap: Tennent's unfiltered, poured a wall away from the brewery that makes it, which almost nowhere else in Britain does. Time Out rated the venue 5/5 and called the beers 'among the very best made in Scotland', and the room runs 24 to 26 rotating taps, a bottle shop and a terrace over the production floor. It sits at could-visit rather than higher because Jeff found the food arrives in small portions at a premium, and because the brewery is now wholly owned by Tennent's parent C&C rather than the independent it started as.
