Why go
The address opened as an Italian ice cream parlour in 1896 and fed people walking back from Kelvingrove Park; the current bar took the room in 2013 and helped turn this stretch of Argyle Street into Finnieston (Glasgowist). Owner Barry Oattes kept the worn parlour frontage and rebuilt everything behind it, adding a 240 square foot dining room in 2020 with Versailles-panelled tables and imported Italian terracotta (SLTN). Fourteen classics stay on the list year round and the seasonal side leans on amaro and fortified wine. The copper sinks holding the ice blocks sit in view behind the bar, and dense clear ice chills without watering the drink down.
