Cellarmaker House of Pizza - SF
Detroit pans, and Jeff's own five-star note gets the crust exactly right: airy and light inside, crisp outside like the cheese fried it. The Al Pastor pizza is the one to order on Mission Street.
Why go
Jeff ate here in May 2019 and wrote the best description on file: The pizza has a thick crust that is airy and light inside with a crispy outside crust that tastes like it's fried in it's own cheese. We had the Al Pastor pizza that was at home in the Mission.
He rated the drinks alongside it: The beer and wine are well executed and gluggable that pair perfectly with the pies.
The brewery still lists its own wine next to the taps, a Pinot Noir grown on the West Sonoma Coast and a Syrah off 2,700 feet in Mendocino.1
No critic has written about this room, so his review is the whole account of the food.
Order this / avoid
- Order: the Al Pastor pizza and a Cellarmaker beer.
- Avoid: a quiet dinner. Jeff's own caveat: "the small space was very loud and crowded on a weeknight."

Jeff's take (his words)
- His review (Jeff, first-hand, 5 stars, 10 May 2019): "Detroit style pizzeria and brewpub. The pizza has a thick crust that is airy and light inside with a crispy outside crust that tastes like it's fried in it's own cheese. We had the Al Pastor pizza that was at home in the Mission. And of course who doesn't like 🍍 on a 🍕. The beer and wine are well executed and gluggable that pair perfectly with the pies. The only downside was that the small space was very loud and crowded on a weeknight."
Verdict
should-visit — Jeff's five stars from May 2019 describe the Detroit crust doing the thing it is supposed to do, airy inside and crisped in its own cheese at the pan edge, on a pizza built as al pastor and eaten on Mission Street. The brewery pours its own beer and its own Sonoma Coast Pinot beside it. One voice, but it is a first-hand one and it names the mechanism, so the rung follows the plate rather than the coverage.
