Tartine Manufactory
Conveyor belts run country loaves and baguettes overhead while staff score dough behind a window. Come for that at breakfast, come back at night for the sourdough pizza.
Why go
Julia Chen scored it 8.1 for the Infatuation and split the day in two: you'll get bread-centric brunch staples and pastries by day, and standout sourdough pizza by night.
1 Her case for the morning is the light and the machinery, in a warehouse with high ceilings where big conveyer belts cycle freshly baked country loaves and baguettes overhead.
Her case for the night is the crust: Tangy crusts release hot puffs of air when you take a bite, and toppings like pepperoni or runny eggs are dusted with an extra helping of parmesan cheese.
Jeff gave the room five stars in May 2017 and left no text with it.
Order this / avoid
- Order: morning buns and an herb omelette at breakfast; the pizza at dinner.
- Avoid: expecting the daylight version after five. The rooms are different.

This warehouse-like spot in the Mission is like the cooler, younger sister of its legendary sibling.

Verdict
should-visit — A bakery that runs two different rooms out of one warehouse, scored 8.1 by the Infatuation for both: bread-centric brunch by day under the conveyor, sourdough pizza by night. The crust is the argument, described by the critic as tangy and puffing hot air on the bite, which is what a sourdough base is supposed to do and rarely does. Jeff gave it five stars in 2017.
