Why go
The brewery has been at this since 2008, dated by a seventeenth-anniversary party on 8 November 2025, and the Chronicle's beer desk has called Pecan Porter a foundational member of Austin's Mount Rushmore of beers.62 Packaging came late and under pressure: the 2021 write-up describes a brewery that took the threat of financial ruin to start bottling, then landed twelve deep with Helles Lager, Cascabel Cream Stout, Black IPA and the porter.2 The 2022 cans added Oatmeal Coffee Stout, Local Crush Kölsch and the house IPA.1 The brewery states its own approach as simple processing, high-quality ingredients and minimal additives or process aids, and it remains independently owned.5
Order this / avoid
- Order: the Pecan Porter. It is the beer the desk keeps returning to and the one carrying a competition medal.1
- Then: the whiskey-barrel-aged Double Pecan Porter at 9.5 percent if it is pouring, or the Kölsch and the helles, which the Chronicle rates as the quality end of the draft list.1
- Avoid: treating this as a place to spend an afternoon. The tasting room opens Saturdays and Sundays from 1pm to 5pm and there is no beer garden.51

- The Austin Chronicle's brewery power rankings, Eric Puga, are the only scored brewery ranking in this city, and they read as a decline: 16th in 2021, 24th on a score of 69.5 in 2022, then named in the 2023 edition's list of breweries dropped from the rankings, and absent again in 2024. His praise is for the liquid:

That matters because his scoring puts 30 percent on the taproom and beer garden against 40 percent on the mainstay beers.1 - Nobody else has assessed this brewery. The Infatuation's 13 Best Breweries In Austin guide does not carry it, Austin Monthly has only event listings for it, and the Statesman has published nothing on it.
Good to know
- The window is four hours, twice a week. The tasting room opens Saturdays and Sundays, 1pm to 5pm, on the brewery's own page.5
- Food comes and goes. Via 313 debuted its mobile pizza truck on this lot at the 2025 anniversary party, which is the shape of food service here.6
- Hygiene: no record found, and that is not the same as a clean one. Austin Public Health holds no row for this brewery, and nothing here says the kitchen was checked and passed.7

could-visit — Pecan Porter is the reason to come and the Chronicle calls it a foundational Austin beer, with a bronze in Stouts and Porters at the 2022 Texas Craft Brewers Cup and a whiskey-barrel-aged double at 9.5 percent behind it. The brewery has been going since 2008 and Eric Puga's line is that it set the standard for local craft beer quality long ago. The room is the problem, and Puga says so: no beer garden, which he calls a self-imposed punt on third down, and he ranked the brewery 16th in 2021, 24th on 69.5 in 2022 and then dropped it. The tasting room opens Saturdays and Sundays from 1pm to 5pm, so this is a four-hour window and a specific beer, not an afternoon.
