Deanston Bakery
In March 2022 Yuriy Kachak put borscht and empire biscuits iced blue and yellow on the counter of his Shawlands bakery, and hundreds of people queued down Deanston Drive to buy them for Ukraine.
Why go
Kachak is Ukrainian, had lived in Scotland for almost twenty years by then, and had been running this bakery for four (STV News). Dozens of local businesses sent baked goods, drinks and raffle prizes to that Sunday sale, and the total passed GBP 25,000. The queue was already the shop's normal condition. Sourdough loaves and bagels go early enough that Hidden Scotland describes people lining around the street
for them, and GlasgowWorld named it one of the twelve bakeries worth your time in the city in January 2026. There is no website, which tells you what kind of operation this is.
