Nomadic Beerworks
The house program is deliberate range rather than a signature: hazy IPAs, American pilsners, fruited sours and West Coast IPAs off the same board, with Super Uber the festbier the Austin Chronicle picked out.1
Why go
A South Austin brewery on Woodbury Dr that pours its own beer alongside an espresso bar, which is a more useful combination than it sounds when the taproom opens at noon at weekends.3 One thing to know before you plan around it: nearly everything written about Nomadic covers the business as a pair with its second taproom in Sunset Valley, and the beer garden copy and the family award both belong to that other room. What is on the record for this one is the beer.
Order this / avoid
- Super Uber, the festbier, when fall rolls around.1
- Whatever the pilsner is that week. The program rotates by design and no published source holds a single beer out as the house flagship.1
What locals & experts say
- The Austin Chronicle's brewery power rankings, 2023, ranked Nomadic 16th in Austin on a score of 78 and described
Nomadic's (intentionally!) exploratory menu of American beer styles: hazy IPAs, American Pilsners, fruited sours, and West Coast IPAs.
1 - The 2024 edition dropped it out of the Top 25, into Just Missed on 81 points. Both rankings are for the business across both taprooms.2
Good to know
- Hours. Monday to Thursday 3pm to 10pm, Friday to Sunday 12pm to 10pm. Walk-in.3
- Hygiene: no finding, but the reading is old. Austin Public Health scored the kitchen 92 on 12 September 2024 and 96 in June 2023 (3804 Woodbury Dr). Nothing below the 70 threshold. The newest inspection is 23 months old, past the 18-month currency bound, so read this as incomplete rather than current.4
- No Austin critic has reviewed this room. The Best of Austin 2024 Critics Pick that turns up under the Nomadic name is
Best Family Outpost in Sunset Valley
and belongs to the second taproom, not here.2
Verdict
listed — South Austin brewery whose stated program is range rather than a house style: hazy IPAs, American pilsners, fruited sours and West Coast IPAs, with a festbier the Chronicle liked. An espresso bar runs off the same counter. The Chronicle ranked the business 16th in Austin in 2023 and left it out of the 2024 Top 25. Listed on a thin and slightly downward record.
