St. Elmo Brewing Company - Springdale
The board is clean-beer led: Vaughn German pilsner, Dad American lager, Carl kolsch, and a wall of IPAs the Austin Chronicle picks Canopy out of for coconut, peach and mango.1
Why go
This is St. Elmo's second room, a beer garden built out east at 8110 Springdale Rd that opened to the public on 13 September 2024 with Spicy Boys Chicken and Pueblo Viejo parked on site.2 The beer is the brewery's, brewed at the original South Austin plant, and it is worth knowing what that means before you go: the medal shelf from 2024 is in Helles Bock, Kolsch and German pilsner, not in IPA.1 Go for the pilsner and the kolsch; the hop wall is the sideline here.
Order this / avoid
- Vaughn, the German pilsner, silver at the 2024 U.S. Open Beer Championship.1
- Carl, the kolsch, bronze in the Kolsch category at the International Beer Awards the same year.1
- Baby, the barrel-aged strong ale, if it is on: gold at the Texas Craft Brewers Cup and silver at the U.S. Open.1
- Avoid: treating the Springdale garden as the place to judge the brewhouse. The mash smell and the brewing happen at the original St. Elmo taproom, which the Chronicle rates as the best brewery entrance in town.1
What locals & experts say
- The Austin Chronicle's 2024 brewery power rankings put St. Elmo fourth in Austin on a score of 93.5, calling it
a charismatic powerhouse looking to dominate the Austin beer scene with a strong board of interesting clean beers
and noting thatthe brand-new St. Elmo 2 on Springdale is still in preseason training.
That is a brand ranking across both rooms, not a judgment on this one.1 - CultureMap Austin filed the opening as news, not a review, and reported the trucks and the hours rather than the beer. No Austin critic has yet published a judgment on drinking in this room.2
Good to know
- Hours, as published in 2024. Sunday to Wednesday 8am to 10pm, Thursday to Saturday 8am to 11pm, effective 17 September 2024. Walk-in. These have not been re-verified since: the brewery's own site returned a navigation shell to both fetch lanes.2
- Food is whichever truck is parked. The opening night ran Spicy Boys Chicken and Pueblo Viejo. There is no in-house kitchen on the record.2
- Hygiene: no finding. Austin Public Health scored the kitchen 93 on 9 December 2025, its only inspection in the window (registered as St. Elmo Brewing, 8110 Springdale Rd). Nothing below the 70 threshold. Note the branch trap: the South Austin room is a separate businesses and its scores are not this room's.4
Verdict
could-visit — St. Elmo's east-side garden, open since September 2024, pouring a board the Austin Chronicle rates fourth best in the city: German pilsner, American lager, kolsch, and a wall of IPAs. Clean-beer program rather than a haze factory, which is the more interesting version of an Austin brewery stop. The room itself has no independent verdict yet.
